Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We are based in Livermore, approximately 1 hour from San Francisco, and have foster homes throughout the area. Appointments are scheduled to meet and adopt dogs, both at home base and in foster care. You must first complete an adoption application.
I have a question about a dog listed for adoption...
Should you have any inquiries about a specific dog, please send an email to info@tailsofgray.org. We receive many emails each day. While we would love to answer everyone’s questions, we need to allocate our time to serious adopters only.
May we come meet a dog today?
If you are interested in meeting one of our dogs, you must first complete an Adoption Application. Once you have been approved, we will coordinate a good time for you to meet with the dog.
How long should I expect to wait before I hear about my Adoption Application?
Please be patient. We will get back to you within 72 hours. Applications are being read and we will email you with any questions or additional information we may need.
What is Tails of Gray’s Adoption Policy?
It is the policy of Tails of Gray that all potential adopters complete an Adoption Application, meet your prospective dog, and complete a home visit in order to be considered as a forever adoptive home for our rescued senior dogs. Tails of Gray will determine the best home match for each animal based on the application information and interview. Completion of the application and interview process does not guarantee an approval or guarantee the adoption of a particular dog. Tails of Gray is a privately run, 501(c)(3) organization and reserves the right to refuse any adoption that is not in the best interest of the dog based on our policies and standards.
What are your adoption fees?
The $200 fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, micro-chip and any other medical care the dog needed when she or he came into rescue.
Does Tails of Gray participate in Shelter Animals Count, the national database of sheltered animal statistics? Are those statistics available?
Yes, we participate, as we support the effort of Shelter Animals Count to enable data-driven decisions to promote saving companion animals’ lives and preventing homelessness. Please click here to view Tails of Gray's data: Basic Data Matrix
I’d like to help. What can I do?
There are so many things you can do to help, even if you don’t have a lot of spare time. We are always looking for people to do home visits of potential adopters, to help with transport, assist with fundraising, social media and administrative tasks.
You do not have to have prior experience, just the time and desire to help a dog in need of rescue.
Please fill out the Volunteer Application, and express your interests and your skills. We look forward to hearing from you!!
